Stitó:s Lá:lém totí:lt, the Chilliwack School District's new elementary/middle school, will open in September 2022. The new school includes 930 student spaces in grades K-8. The school is located on Tyson Road near the Vedder River, and will be surrounded by nature, park space and trails, with the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve nearby.

We want your feedback on the neighbourhood boundaries that will determine the school catchment area.

We are looking for feedback on the boundary option presented in our Boundary Review & Feeder School Relationships document.

Highlights:

  • Students at Watson Elementary will continue to have the choice to attend Mount Slesse Middle or Vedder Middle.
  • To balance enrollment at middle schools, Promontory Elementary, Greendale Elementary and Yarrow Elementary grade 5 students will transition into Stitó:s Elementary/Middle in grade 6.
  • Students from Stitó:s Elementary (k-5) and students who transitioned to Stitó:s Lá:lém totí:lt Middle from Promontory at grade 6 will transition to G.W. Graham Secondary at grade 9.
  • Students from Greendale and Yarrow who transitioned to Stitó:s in grade 6 will transition to Sardis Secondary at grade 9.
  • The new Stitó:s Elementary/Middle School boundary will change the existing boundaries at Unsworth Elementary, Vedder Elementary and Watson Elementary.

Why no mention of Cultus Lake?

Really disappointed to see Webster’s/Lindys area cut off from the middle school boundary. This area should be considered.

Just want to add more as I was trying to cross Keith Wilson this morning and it’s an absolute zoo. Keep things on one side of Keith Wilson allowing kids to walk/bike safely to school. Isn’t Keith Wilson changing to 4 lanes? Please reconsider as I prefer to send my kids on a river trail than cross four lanes of traffic. After witnessing close calls we usually hop in the car now and I’d really prefer not to.

On the map it looks like Promontory is closer, but it doesn't take into account the actual commute! Promontory students would be closer to Mt. Slesse, while students from Cutlus Lake are closer to Stitó:s. It doesn't make much sense.

Nik over 3 years ago

It makes sense when you think of the population of students generated from Promontory that they would go to Stiti:s La:lem toti:lt. I'm excited about an elementary and middle school combination as it leaves more flexibility as grade numbers surge in different grades each year which makes it more accommodating to the community.

Stitos catchment should include cultus lake children. This us the closest school for them to attend. Promontory already is bussed into slesse.
As stated...all children inuding cultus lake on this side of Keith Wilson road should attend Stito:s school. It seems ridiculous to send them to school further away. I can walk form cultus lake where I live to the new school using the Vedder rotary trail

Credman over 3 years ago

Cultus lake shoukd be included in the catchment. This new school is a direct route for the kids to attend middle school. Mt sleese is further away and promontory kids attend slesse

Credman over 3 years ago

Leaving out the small Webster community is a complete joke. Everyone on the south side of Keith Wilson, should be included. Look at the map again and look how ridiculous you made it.
We should be at least given the option.

Does not make sense. Promontory has a direct route to Slesse. Unsworth catchment is walking distance to Stito:s. But the kids past Peach Road have to go all the way to Slesse. Whoe er though up these boundaries have never walked from Webster Landing to Slesse vs the location of Stito:s.(for middle school. And splitting them going from Grade 8 to 2 different schools ridiculous. It's hard enough being a teen, and possibly being split from your friends fafter these kids have been socially isolated for at least 18 months will just add more anxiety to a generation of overanxious depressed teens. Whoever came up with this should ride their bike at school drop off or pick up times to these locations.

My child could walk the river trail to an outdoor school but instead due to boundaries it’s suggested she should hit the road, cross Keith Wilson to attend a school farther away.

UnsworthE over 3 years ago

Not having the Webster Landing community attending this school is a strange decision. My children cross Keith Wilson to attend Unsworth Elem currently and the trucks barreling sometimes on the shoulder of Keith Wilson is so unsafe. My child could walk out our backyard and bike along the trail for 5 min to Stitos. Having a hard time understanding this logic.

Cultus Lake Community School should be included in the new school boundary. Otherwise kids will literally Have to pass it on the way to the farther school.

RisaT over 3 years ago

It is too bad that kids will be separated into high schools based on which elementary school they went to. A lot of friend changes could happen in the 3 years of middle school, and then they have to be separated from friends for high school. Would be nice if they had a choice in which high school they moved on to.

Vicky over 3 years ago

Happy that Promontory elementary is included.

Fista over 3 years ago

Cultus Lake should be included, you have to drive past the new school to get to the current catchment school

Patiofurniture over 3 years ago

I'm disappointed that Chilliwack Lake Road wasn't considered in this decision. Currently we need to backtrack all the way up to the Cultus Lake school :(

Janellembc over 3 years ago

Cultus Lake should be in catchment for Stitó:s

I know Promontory is overflowing but Cultus is a more direct route. It would make sense for them to be included.

I like this.

I think that the boundary should be equal on all sides, a radius give or take based on numbers. And those who live close to the school should not be forced to a school that is further from their homes. Sardis is supposed to be a walking community and so these logistics need to be taken into account. We live just a few hundred meters from the new school but we would be forced to walk to school that are further. I also do not think it's fair that Unsworth children are not given the options that other schools are given. Perhaps these things could be reconsidered.

My kid goes to Promontory Elementary and we are happy with the new school proposed catchment.
